21-08-2012 | The Prime Minister participates in leading energy event
The Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands will be present when heads of global oil companies and national leaders from twenty countries come together for a leading energy conference in Stavanger at the end of August. The conference will address global energy issues in a geopolitical context.
The event, Offshore Northern Seas, will take place in Sola, nearby Stavanger in Norway, and will focus on energy and geopolitics. The participants of the event include heads of state from the Netherlands, Tanzania, Brazil, South Africa, Ghana and the Faroe Islands, as well as the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt.
In addition to this, the event will be joined by the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gah Støre, the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe, as well as the CEO of Statoil, Helge Lund, and other leading figures in the global oil and gas industry.
'It means a lot for Norway to host such prominent people in the global energy industry', says Oddveig Haga, Project Director of Offshore Northern Seas.
According to him, one of the purposes of the event is to provide a space where the participants can establish global networks.
'The theme for this year's conference is to confront energy paradoxes that exist in the world today. If we wish to solve them, we need a constructive dialogue that can increase understanding between different parts of the world. With time we hope to make this event a central forum for the global energy discussion', says the Project Director.
Among other things, the event will be host to three presentations: one on the Arctic, one on the Middle East and North Africa, and one on the 'BRICS' countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands will be accompanied by the Faroese Minister of Trade and Industry, Johan Dahl, and the Faroese businessman, Rúni M. Hansen, who is the Head of Statoil in the Faroe Islands and who leads Statoil's Arctic Department. He will be representing the large Norwegian company, Statoil, together with the CEO, Helge Lund.
The Faroese offshore industry is also well represented at the event with a large exhibition stall and fourteen participants at the large industry exhibition that takes place alongside the conference in Stavanger from 28 to 31 August.
